On December 2, 2016, Canada joined the US, Israel, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru and Palau in voting against six anti-Israel resolutions at the U.N. General Assembly (UNGA). The resolutions, part of UN’s annual ritual of Israel bashing, were sponsored by members of the Organization for Islamic Cooperations, a collective of 57 Muslim countries with a permanent delegation to the UN.

Maryam Monsef, Minister of Democratic Institutions, says that like any other Canadian in her situation she has started the process of updating her personal documents after the Globe and Mail revealed that she was born in Iran and not in Afghanistan.
Speaking with CBC News Network's Power & Politics Rosemary Barton, Monsef dodged a direct question about the original refugee documents that were submitted to authorities when her mother applied in 1996 for a refugee status for the family.
